Plymothian by birth, I have a PGCE in Secondary Science with Biology specialism from Exeter University (including sixth form teaching), an undergraduate Biology degree from Cardiff University and A Levels in all three Sciences and Spanish from Richard Huish College. I attended both state and private schools throughout my education, finishing at Taunton School as a boarder age 11-16 on academic scholarship. I have 12 years experience in the Education sector, 6 years experience as a Chemistry examiner and 7 years private tutoring experience across Science and Maths qualifications. I also hold a NPQ in Leading Teaching & Learning. My areas of expertise include Animal Behaviour & Evolution, curriculum development, practical management and exam technique. My favourite pedagogical techniques are Rosenshine's Principles, particularly those of effective modelling and deliberate practice in Science.
I have recently left my role as Deputy Head of Science in a Somerset secondary school, and am currently living and working in Whangamata, New Zealand, in order to spend time with family and experience the sights and wonders of NZ! This year, I am very excited to be expanding my tutoring business to a wider range of Science and Maths qualifications and increasing my online services provided, including for NZ NCEA qualifications. I have recently developed support materials for the T Level L3 in Health as tutees from GCSE have progressed onto this fairly new Science programme. I am always keen for any dissection opportunity and will pop to the local butchers if needed!
In my downtime, I can be found with friends and family, knitting or crafting, pub quizzing, reading anything crime, finding new cheeses to try, watching Bakeoff, plating food à la Masterchef or trying to spot an otter along the River Tone.
